Molecular control of neuronal axon myelination
Research Focus
We want to understand the mechanisms of myelin development and regeneration after injury. We also aim to unveil novel roles for glial cells in nerve tissue function.

Myelin Development
In our group we try to elucidate the molecular mechanisms controlling the axonal myelination during development. Our goal is to use this information to develop new strategies in the treatment of demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis in the central nervous system (CNS) and Charcot-Marie-Tooth in the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
Nerve Regeneration
Peripheral nerves can regenerate after injury. Unfortunately, regeneration is inefficient in long nerves, aged nerves and PNS diseases. We explore the mechanisms of nerve regeneration trying to find approaches to improve it when it is hampered.
Novel roles for glial cells in nerve function
We try to understand the role of peripheral glia-axon signaling in peripheral nerve function, including sensory transduction and pain detection.
